Success of Floating LiDAR Validation Milestones Achieved
AXYS Technologies recently conducted its ninth and tenth independently reviewed offshore validations for its FLiDAR 6M wind assessment platform, further solidifying the commercial viability of floating LiDAR technology in offshore wind resource assessment. Validations campaigns took place at FINO 1 in the North Sea and West of Duddon Sands in Ireland Sea respectively - adding 11 months' worth of validation data for supporting project financing decisions by AXYS Technologies.
Validation efforts represent a critical step towards making floating LiDAR an accepted tool for offshore wind development. Third-party reviews offer financial institutions and developers valuable verification that their projects meet requirements.
Dual LiDAR WindSentinel Systems Establish New Industry Standard
AXYS has successfully completed the world's first deployment of dual LiDAR WindSentinel floating systems featuring ZephIR 300 sensors for use at validation and research studies at the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult's National facility in Blyth, Northumberland. This dual sensor configuration marks an advancement in floating laboratory capabilities by providing customized meteorological, metocean data as well as wind resource assessment measurements.
WindSentinel combines NOMAD buoy, designed to withstand harsh marine environments, with continuous wave LiDAR technology to deliver comprehensive environmental intelligence for offshore wind farm development.
Baltic Sea Deployment Supports Polish Offshore Wind Development
AXYS Technologies recently deployed its WatchKeeper meteorological and oceanographic data buoy approximately 60 kilometers off Poland's Northern Baltic Coast. Commissioned by Baltic Trade and Invest (BTI), this buoy will support Environmental Impact Assessment campaigns for the proposed FEW Baltic II offshore wind farm development. Providing crucial wind speed measurements, air temperature readings, as well as additional oceanographic parameters essential to environmental assessment and project planning processes is its WatchKeeper platform.
This deployment reflects an increasing demand for metocean monitoring infrastructure among European offshore wind development projects, particularly those located in Baltic regions where wind resource assessment remains an integral component of new initiatives.
Strategic Partnership Expands Collaborative Capabilities
AXYS Technologies and Belgium-based 3E NV have signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding future collaboration and cooperation activities. The partnership stems from AXYS' 2015 acquisition of FLiDAR NV from 3E/OWA partnership. Although traditionally serving different geographical markets and commercial segments, both companies recognize opportunities to provide more comprehensive solutions to clients within offshore marine industries.
Market Position and Industry Leadership:
AXYS Technologies remains a world leader in meteorological and oceanographic measurement technologies with more than 50 years of operational experience and clients in over 80 countries. AXYS' expertise spans data buoy observations, water quality monitoring, waves and currents measurements as well as ship-based observation systems. Market analyses estimate the marine data buoy market was valued at USD 829 Million in 2024 with projected growth up to USD 1.189 Million by 2031 due to rising maritime trade activity as well as investments into offshore renewable energy infrastructure development projects.
