Kongsberg Secures Major Contracts for NSM Coastal Defense and Submarine Combat Systems

Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace and Denmark reached agreements that exceeded EUR 100 million to supply Naval Strike Missile Coastal Defence Systems to fortify Baltic and North Sea defenses, and an ORCCA combat system deal on German and Norwegian 212CD submarines, totalling NOK 3.5 billion in value. Furthermore, Kongsberg acquired Zone 5 Technologies of US in order to boost affordable missile production capabilities.

Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace celebrated a strong finish to 2025 with key maritime defence contracts that solidified its place as one of NATO allies' primary suppliers in both coastal and subsurface domains.

Denmark Acquires NSM Coastal Defense System

On 17 December 2025, Denmark inked an over EUR 100 million contract with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace for a Naval Strike Missile Coastal Defence System (NSM CDS). This system features advanced fire control units, NSM missiles, and launchers allowing Denmark to defend against modern naval threats from land-based positions.

Denmarks acquisition will expand operational capabilities across strategic coastlines, particularly the Danish Straits and western Baltic Sea, amid increased Russian activities including airspace violations and undersea cable disruptions. Rear Adm. Soren Kjeldsen, Danish Navy commander, noted the system's contribution to deterrence; first deliveries will occur through direct award in 2026 to ensure timely deployment.

Denmark becomes the fifth NATO nation to adopt NSM CDS, joining Poland, Romania, Latvia and Latvia. Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace highlighted its role in expanding NSM CDS presence from Baltic to North Sea regions; following Denmarks March 2025 order of NSM missiles for its frigates.

Kongsberg Will Deliver ORCCA Combat Systems for 212CD Submarines

Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace announced on December 20,25 a NOK 3.5 billion contract to supply ORCCA combat system elements for six 212CD submarines: two for Germany's Navy and four more from Norway (pending Parliament approval). This deal aligns with Norways announcement in December 2025 of plans to acquire two additional 212CD submersible submarines (pending Parliament approval).

Norway and Germany will operate a fleet of 12 advanced submarines equipped with what Kongsberg describes as the industry's most sophisticated combat system, according to Eirik Lie. He highlighted their strategic value for deterrence and national defence purposes while this contract demonstrated Kongsberg's expertise in integrated naval combat solutions for conventional diesel-electric platforms.

Acquisition of Zone 5 Technologies Expands Missile Portfolio

Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace announced their intention to acquire Zone 5 Technologies LLC of California, a developer of affordable high-volume missiles. This acquisition seeks to increase strike and air defence capabilities as demand from recent conflicts requires mass produced effectors against drones and various threats.

Zone 5's product offerings include Rusty Dagger versatile strike missile, White Spike Group 3+ air interceptor and Paladin low-collateral hexacopter designed for counter-UAS missions. Kongsberg CEO Geir Haoy lauded Zone 5s innovative edge and US market success - being selected for Air Force programs such as ERAM and FAMM selections - which he added further strengthened Kongsbergs presence here as it complimented existing systems like NASAMS.

Kongsberg stands at the forefront of maritime and integrated defence solutions, supporting NATO interoperability and regional security in waters under threat.
