Nexans Norway Launches Cable-Laying Vessel and Signs Key Contracts in December Milestone

Nexans Norway AS accomplished significant achievements in December 2025 with the hull launch of Nexans Electra at Ulstein Verft and Space Norway awarding them with a contract for Bodo-Fauske link fibre-optic cable installation work. These events underscore Nexans' central role in Norway's offshore energy and digital infrastructure sectors.

Nexans Norway AS has proven itself an industry leader in marine cabling since late 2025. Focused on advanced vessel construction and critical subsea infrastructure projects, its activities align with global demands for sustainable energy provision and reliable digital connectivity in harsh offshore environments.

Nexans Launchs New Electra Hull at Ulstein Verft

Nexans marked an important achievement on November 13, 2025 by initiating construction on their next-generation cable-laying vessel (CLV), Nexans Electra. The event signals swifter progress towards its scheduled delivery in 2026.

Ulstein Verft received the Crist shipyard's hull for final outfitting earlier, including electrical installations, insulation, piping, main generator sets, power and propulsion systems, deck machinery winches and topside equipment. At 155.2 meters in length and 31 meters in beam, Electra was designed to operate efficiently under difficult environmental conditions with superior station-keeping and maneuverability capabilities.

Key features of Nexans' latest vessel include a 10,000-tonne split turntable on deck, 3,500-tonne under-deck turntable and 450-tonne fibre optic tank to enable installation of DC and AC subsea cables in deep water environments. Furthermore, sustainability measures such as shore power compatibility, energy storage capability, biofuel readiness and biofuel readiness have been implemented to further minimize its environmental footprint while expanding Nexans' turnkey capabilities for offshore wind and interconnector projects.

Space Norway Awarded Subsea Fiber Contract

On December 18, 2025, Space Norway AS awarded Nexans Norway AS the contract to develop and manufacture an advanced double-armoured subsea fibre-optic cable with 96 fibers for their Bodo-Fauske link spanning approximately 45 km in length. Production will occur at Nexans' Rognan plant with scheduled delivery planned for 2026.

This project forms part of Arctic Way, the world's northernmost subsea fiber optic network connecting mainland Norway with Svalbard for critical digital infrastructure in Nordland. Pia Birgitte Bruhn, Project Manager at Space Norway, noted Nexans Rognan's proven experience in subsea fibre systems as a factor for selection.

Stian Furuheim Johansen, Sales Manager Fiber at Nexans Norway AS, highlighted its local significance, noting its role in regional digital development and reinforcing Nexans' leadership position within fibre optic submarine cables. Nexans' initiative supports further growth and innovation throughout Northern Norway.

Additional Operational Highlights of Operationalitat

Nexans Norway contributed to several global projects beyond these milestones, delivering 66kV accessories for East Anglia THREE offshore wind farm on December 18th 2025 to support subsea power transmission. Their Halden facility with expanded high voltage cable production capacity featuring Norway's tallest extrusion tower continued supporting these efforts although expansion was completed earlier.

Nexans Norway AS is at the forefront of energy transition, connecting offshore renewables and Arctic communications through cutting-edge maritime technology.
