RINA Strengthens Southeast Asian Presence by Establishing Singapore Innovation Hub
On November 5th 2025, MPA and RINA signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a technology demonstration centre within RINA's Open Innovation Hub in Singapore. The partnership creates a collaborative platform intended to co-create innovative maritime digitalization and decarbonization solutions and serve as a hub for technological breakthroughs across Southeast Asia.
This technology demonstration centre will aid the development of intelligent maritime systems and serve as platforms to validate new technologies, expedite their implementation into real-world operations, and accelerate deployment times. According to Mr Ang Wee Keong, Chief Executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, signing this MoU is a significant step toward strengthening Singapore's maritime innovation ecosystem by working closely with international partners like RINA as well as local industry and research communities; Singapore hopes that by working collaboratively on this effort testing and adopting emerging technologies which make its sector smarter, safer and more sustainable.
The Open Innovation Hub seeks to facilitate collaboration and facilitate technological breakthroughs that advance maritime industry sustainability efforts and digital transformation initiatives, positioning Singapore as an important regional center of maritime innovation in Southeast Asia.
Lloyd's Register Unveils Global Maritime Innovation Center with COSCO Partnership
Lloyd's Register (LR), together with COSCO Shipping Group, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and University of Southampton have come together to form an International Maritime Future Technologies Innovation Center. The virtual center's purpose is to accelerate research and development on low and no carbon maritime technologies as well as intelligent ship systems and digital innovation.
The center serves as a global platform for collaboration between industry and academia, helping the maritime sector transition towards smarter and more sustainable practices. Led by COSCO Shipping Group, it draws upon each partner's specializations in technical standards, alternative fuels, vessel performance monitoring, intelligent navigation systems and digital modeling - while capitalizing on COSCO Shipping's extensive operational data and fleet network to test and validate new technologies that offer real world decarbonization solutions.
This initiative seeks to translate research findings into practical, scalable solutions suitable for deployment across global fleets. This cooperation represents an important step toward meeting maritime industry's environmental and technological objectives globally.
