Mesotech Completes Rebrand to Kongsberg Discovery Canada

Mesotech, an underwater technology developer in Vancouver, has changed to Kongsberg Discovery Canada as it capitalizes on the global reach of parent company Kongsberg Gruppen. The change places Mesotech within Kongsberg Discovery's wide portfolio of advanced underwater robotics and sensor technologies serving fisheries, ocean science, renewable energy infrastructure search & rescue and defence applications.

Mesotech has built up an enduring customer following since opening their doors in 1973 with high-resolution sonar systems and acoustic technology solutions that meet customers' high expectations for accuracy and sensitivity. Since joining Kongsberg Group in 1997, Mesotech has become an integral component of ocean technology portfolio. Their transition into Kongsberg Discovery Canada marks an official globalized business unit.

Restructuring at Kongsberg Group Cultivates Technology Leaders

Rebranding comes at a time of profound restructuring for Kongsberg Gruppen. The Norwegian industrial group plans on demerging its maritime division into an independent publicly listed company while consolidating Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace and Kongsberg Discovery into one technology- and defense-focused entity.

Kongsberg Discovery was formed as an independent company last year and currently employs over 1,000 dedicated professionals, operating from its home base of Norway. The division provides solutions for accessing high-resolution ocean data across broad depth and conditions spectrums with special attention paid towards sustainability in fisheries and energy sectors.

Restructuring will reflect how Kongsberg Maritime operates in multiple international markets with differing demands, with integrated vessel systems covering automation, propulsion, navigation, dynamic positioning and remote operations being prioritized while the consolidated Kongsberg entity addresses defense, security and surveillance needs. A demerger plan was approved on 18 December 2025 with shareholder vote expected for 22 January 2026 with listing completion anticipated in April 2026.
