Mitsui OSK Lines Celebrates Key Milestones for Decarbonization and Innovation This December

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines celebrated December 2025 with strategic announcements such as AiP for subsea cable vessels, low-carbon ammonia transportation deal with JERA and carbon removal partnership as well as their India manning arm's 30th anniversary celebrations and Jotaro Tamura's anticipated takeover as CEO during Blue Action 2035 Phase 2. A leadership transition date of April 2026 is planned under this initiative.

Bulk Carrier Sector Experiences Key Acquisitions and Orders Amid Diverse Freight Rates

Yang Ming Marine Transport's dry-bulk unit recently signed contracts to acquire four Handymax bulk carriers valued at up to $173 million, while Genco Shipping agreed to purchase two high-spec Newcastlemax vessels for $145.5 million. These moves come on the heels of capesize rate gains and soft smaller segments as well as ClassNK's AiP for advanced fuel-ready bulkers and Pacific Basin's newbuild orders.

Classification Societies Advance Digital Innovation and Emissions Compliance Standards

Classification societies have markedly increased the level of regulatory and technical updates between November and December 2025, focussing on emission reporting deadlines, lifting appliance requirements and new technology approvals. Among these, the U.S. Coast Guard have published updates to their Alternate Compliance Program, and there are also revisions to SOLAS, among other guidance around lifting equipment.
